I think about where I am and where I was. In a word — wow!

I was a little older than everyone else when I graduated from high school. I had to take ninth grade over. I was transferred from one high school to another.
I am now an Aviation Electrician’s Mate. Thanks to the credits I earned in “A” School (technical skills training), I am close to earning an associate’s degree in aviation electronics.
More than teaching me a skill, the Navy forced me to become mature. No more excuses. No more fighting. No more mouthing off. No more of the old me.
When I visit home and go to the mall, I’m in uniform. Kids come up to me with questions. I can really identify with them because it wasn’t that long ago that I was struggling. I’m an example of what they can do with their lives if they join the Navy.
