Career
I went from furniture to medicine.

I was that proverbial rudderless ship on the sea after I graduated high school — no direction and no goals. I wasn’t sure where life was going to take me. I sold furniture, worked construction jobs, roofed houses. I did a bunch of things.
On a lark one day I walked into a recruiter’s office and enlisted in the Navy. After completing Recruit Training (Boot Camp), I went to Field Medical Service School to become a Corpsman. And that was the start of my career in the Navy.
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Administration (thanks to Navy tuition assistance), then went on to get my commission and become an Officer. I am currently in the process of earning my master’s degree.
I’ve held different positions and gained successively more responsibilities at a number of medical facilities. Currently I am a Courses Director for a Department of Defense Bio-Medical School. I am responsible for 80 instructors and 400 students.
Thanks to my hard work and the opportunities the Navy gave me, I guess you could say my ship now has a rudder.
