Navy Diver
Requirements & Tests

To be accepted by the Navy Dive and Salvage Training Command (NDSTC), located in Panama City, FL, candidates for Fleet Diving can enroll no later than their 30th birthday. Candidates can apply for the Navy Challenge contract for Divers in Delayed Entry Program, or can volunteer for Navy Diver during Recruit Training (Boot Camp) or at any time during their first enlistment. Other requirements include:
- Pass a pressure test (for diving)
- Pass a diving medical exam (approved by Diving Medical Officer)
- Eyesight 20/200 bilateral correctable to 20/20 with no color blindness
- Males and females are eligible
- One year without nonjudicial punishment
- Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for secret clearance
Physical Screening Test
- 500-yard swim using side- or breaststroke in 14:00 minutes or faster (10-minute rest)
- Perform a minimum of 42 push-ups in 2:00 minutes (2-minute rest)
- Perform a minimum of 50 sit-ups in 2:00 minutes (2-minute rest)
- Perform a minimum of 6 dead-hang pull-ups: no time limit (10-minute rest)
- Run 1.5 miles in 12:45 or faster
