Air presence supports Iraqi elections
USS Harry S. Truman (CVN– 75) and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3 helped provide on–call air support for coalition and Iraqi forces during the latest Iraqi elections. This mission enabled the Iraqi people to hold democratic elections for the first time in many years.
Democracy prevails in Afghanistan thanks to Navy backup
In December 2004, the Afghan people held their first inauguration for their new, democratically elected president. It was the first democratic election in Afghanistan’s 5,000-year history. The team, made up of approximately 30 Navy personnel, worked with all branches of the U.S. military and units from all over the world, including Romania, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
