Overview
Why is the Navy a good choice for my child?
Sure joining the Navy is a great opportunity for your child’s educational and physical growth. But, at the same time, they are joining a military force. And we understand you may have some concerns for their safety and well-being.
That’s why we’ve created this section. We hope to cover not only some of the many benefits that go along with joining the Navy but also some of your questions and concerns about the well-being of your child.
When finished, we trust you’ll realize that joining the Navy can be one of the best life-changing choices your son or daughter can make. It’s an investment in their future, giving them opportunities they may not have otherwise.
Naval Sea Cadet Corps
Since 1958, the Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) has been committed to providing American youth with a drug- and alcohol-free environment to foster their leadership abilities, broaden their horizons through hands-on training, and guide them in becoming mature young adults.
The Naval Sea Cadet Corps is for American youth, aged 11-17, who have a desire to learn about the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine. Depending on the rate achieved in the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, former cadets may be eligible to enlist in the armed forces at an advanced pay grade.
Being an honorably discharged Naval Sea Cadet Corps member is looked upon favorably by selection boards for military academies and ROTC programs. And those cadets who are accepted to a four-year university may be eligible for scholarships.

Career Potential
In today’s competitive work environment, any advantage your child has will move them ahead faster and easier. The Navy can give your son or daughter the edge they need.
Money for College
The Navy has educational opportunities for almost everyone, whether your child has just finished high school or already has a college degree.
Experience Life
Navy bases are located in the U.S. and abroad in exciting locations around the world. Navy ports of call — everywhere our ships visit — add to the adventure and variety of Navy life. For many Sailors, travel helps to broaden their worldview as they experience different cultures.
How do I stay in Touch
While in the Navy, your child will only be a phone call or email away. Sailors have access to telephones, email, instant messaging, mail, and other forms of communication.
Message Board for Parents
Hear from others who’ve been there and done that. The Navy Message Board contains all types of useful information from Navy moderators and Message Board users.
