Audiology
Job Overview:
As a Navy Audiologist, you’ll find cutting-edge work in the health services. Elite specialists at the top of their field. And a position of honor and respect waiting should you choose to join such ranks.
Pay:
An active carrier flight deck: 130 decibels. Standard-issue firearms: 150 decibels. For Sailors and Marines, audiological health is a top priority, and it requires particularly astute audiologists to help them maintain optimum hearing capabilities.
What will you do?
As an audiologist, you’ll diagnose, evaluate and treat hearing disorders and communication problems. Provide a wide range of clinical support services for a diverse population. Give rehabilitative, nonmedical support to improve communication ability. Ensure the auditory combat readiness of Fleet and Marine personnel while serving as consultant manager of Navy/Marine Corps Hearing Conservation Programs.
You’ll also perform routine and advanced auditory examinations. Design, develop and maintain aural rehabilitation programs. Supervise, lead or perform research related to impaired hearing, voice, language or speech. And provide industrial audiology support for aviation, shipboard and artillery communities.
Requirements
Basic Requirements
- Master’s degree in audiology. Audiology will be transitioning to a clinical doctoral degree (AuD) as the entry-level degree
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
- Current state licensure
Preferred Requirements
- Interest in clinical, industrial (occupational) or educational audiology
- Ability to work with a diverse population in a variety of medical settings
